Re: WHAT'S GROWING IN YOUR GARDEN ??
The catkins popped today on the silver birch . It looks as though it's having a quiet little weep . It's such a beautiful tree.

My 8' holly tree is in flower . However, it's a male so this is as exciting as it ever gets.
Can't tell whether it's perfumed or not 'cos I can't get close enuf to a blossom !!

Strangely my Holly decided to flower last Autumn around October time. How can you tell if it's male or female Holly. It doesn't smoke a pipe if that's any help.Placido wrote:My 8' holly tree is in flower . However, it's a male so this is as exciting as it ever gets.

The lucky owner can tell m/f of a holly simply because the previous years and years and ..... there were/are no/some berries.

It is only about 5 feet tall and a bit of a baby in tree terms and that blossom last year was the first sign of any sexual activity(?). I'm hoping I've got a girl but my heart is saying "it's a boy "Placido wrote:The lucky owner can tell m/f of a holly simply because the previous years and years and ..... there were/are no/some berries.
