Corvids

Post by squirrel » Tue Jun 03, 2014 11:48 pm

I saw something really funny on Sunday. I saw a Crow on a telephone wire hanging on by it's feet and doing loop the loops!! They weren't fast loops, just quite slow ones with plenty of swinging under the wire at the bottom, then it would swing to the top and balance for a few moments and go down again, all by it's claws!! It looked as if it was doing it for fun!! I was driving my car down my road when I saw it and started to laugh - in fact I nearly crashed into a parked car, as I couldn't take my eyes off it. Has anyone else ever seen this kind of behaviour in Corvids?

Heard of some clever behaviour from Corvids squirrel, but that's a new one for me. Me'be he/she is part of a travelling circus act?? :blackbird:

Amazing sighting squirrel . I have never heard of it happening. It would be a good one to contact Springwatch about and see if they can supply an answer.

The two in the tree look like Crows to me. :)

Did anyone see the jackdaws on yesterday's One Show?
They did what they do by me, but on a bigger scale, ie hang out and chat about the day's business :)

Here's one of our Crows waiting its turn for the bird table. They're well trained now, into the Laburnum, onto the Pergola then on to the table  they are very civilised, no fighting or pushing in. Very patient birds :)

Its got a shiny nose! You can see from its head feathers that it has the light on it. I've got another shot of the same one with a black beak, ( can't post it because I've reached my limit - I'll try tomorrow).
This is one of a pair who nested in a tree at the bottom of the garden. I don't think Rooks are as solitary as Crows. :)
