No, I haven't, Kev but it seems to make sense to buy a 'pod' first and fix it up somehow to see whether your birds actually like it before buying the whole kit.
In any case, if you want blackbirds then a more open feeding system would need to be found. But I appreciate you're up in the sky

I have never tried one so perhaps it's time I did. I'll put one on my Crimbo prezzy list :santa: :tampoline:

Anyone tried these things?

Might work better for the robins as I think they struggle a bit on the feeders.
I have one of those, and it was really popular, all the birds would queue to get to it. I haven't seen robins or blackbirds on it though, I think its not their thing, but all the tit family, starlings, even GSW was eating from it. Well worth a buy

It is only about a week ago I confidently forecast that the supply of berries from my Rowan was going to last for some time. Wrong again
Today the tree is stripped bare. I think some of the other birds have been "helping" the Blackbirds with their task. I'm blaming pigeons and corvids as they are the one I've seen plundering the crop.
One male Blackbird has discovered my grapevine and is spending a lot of time there. It is away from the usual feeding spots so he may have it to himself. :blackbird:

I guess the disadvantage of those jamjar feeders is the food. You're kind of tied in to getting those jars whereas with a regular feeder I tended to mix in wild seed, suet, meal worms and even left over bran flake 'dust' from the bottom of the packet :)

Jacquesparreau: Zut alors, quelle catastrophe :weep:. Not the grapevine ?!?!?!?! That news has put a serious crimp in the Christmas production of festive HB . Back to baby onion and holly berries. That's shallot !! (Geddit??)

Kev: you're right. That's the problem with specialist feeder types - same as coffee machines only fit one type of pod.
Wonder whether there is a window feeder with suckers on the window glass which is large enuf for blackbirds ??

For small birds, and including robins, this feeder proved to be super popular, tit family absolutely loved it, probably because bigger birds can't land on it (too small) so they don't get pushed over:

I can't remember which site I bought it from but its like that one, just blue :)

That's a nice one but doesn't fit where I have mine. I'm in a flat and there's a sort of architectural bar outside the window that I can hang a feeder on so I'm a bit limited by space. The only ones I can really use are the tube seed feeders and standard nut ones. That jamjar one might work ok but I think I'm inclined to count it out for the food limitation.

I have thought about the sucker tray types Placi but I'm never sure how well they stick on and I wouldn't want anything else to fall down a floor! I think I'll wait for the online shop I normally buy from to have a free delivery weekend or discount voucher and buy the same again.

Have to admit, Kev, that I have the same reservation towards the 'sucker-type' feeders and I don't know anyone at all who's actually tried one. I s'pose some folk have or they wouldn't be selling them at all.
Back to the drawing board ...... :(

During the recent rainy season there has been no noticeable downturn in birds visiting for food but they have run up against a problem. The design of my hanging feeder ports somehow allows water to get inside the feeder and slow down the flow of the food. On the very worst days the soggy food blocks the bottom third of the feeder meaning food is wasted during the unclogging procedure. This is annoying to say the least :grumpy:
I don't think there is any easy solution but I am enjoying the opportunity to have a moan
