Re: BUTTERFLIES
I had a small yellow butterfly whizz past me in the garden today. It did not hang around for me to get a better look. I have no idea what it was.

Re: BUTTERFLIES
Loads of flutterbies in the garden today. Nothing rare or exciting, just the usual suspects but it was good to see so many.
Re: BUTTERFLIES
Opened the wheelie bin this morning and an orangey/brown, browny/orange butterfly flew out once it had orientated itself by circling the interior a couple of times in a mad flap.
I think it was a Gatekeeper . I could tell that because it definitely flew off in a westerly (<<<<<<) direction, so really it must have been .

Well, I thought that too , but Meadow Browns always fly north and this deffo went west so it must have been a Gatekeeper.
Stands to reason .....

Re: BUTTERFLIES
In spite of the cooler and changeable weather the butterflies have been finding their way into my garden. Nothing rare but all the usual suspects in fairly good numbers. It has not been a record year for butterflies but not a bad one either.
Re: BUTTERFLIES
My butterfly count soars as soon as the buddleia blooms and it has been beautiful this year . Going brown now but the seeds are a welcome and popular winter food.
