I saw a damselfly today (in fact, I think there were two)
.
I've checked out the life-cycle and it could be true, possibly.
Could hardly believe my eyes.

No, Jacksparrow, they appeared to be a pale, pale creamy-yellow.

Three Large Red Damselflies visited today. Here are two of them engaged in egg laying
What is not very clear is that during mating the male connects his abdomen just behind the females head.
