The last couple of days for reasons I will not bore you with I have been digging trenches in the back lawn. Although the Robin has come for a look by far the most interested parties have been my Blackbirds. There have been easy meals available for the observant and they have easily been the most observant. :nod: :blackbird:

Trenches ?!?!?! :eek: :dogrun: What do you know that we don't know.

Good for the blackies - as a breed, robins are lazy likkle blighters ...... or maybe your robins have kicked the youngsters out of the nests whilst the blackbirds are still feeding young.

The Blackies are still feeding young uns. Mrs.B was in close attendance again this morning while I was filling in the trenches. No Roman remains were found nor marauding invaders repulsed :shake:

Phew - Western civilisation is saved again :eek:.

Talking of blackbirds ....... last evening looked out of Observation Post No. 1 (I'm worried about invasion too :rolleyes:) and the feeding cage was ram-jam full of 2 babies and a daddy blackbird. I would have loved to see how he got them inside it but there they were.
Obviously he was teaching them where the good grub is. Watched to see them leave and out dad popped to be followed by one baby, but the other one wasn't paying enuf attention and had a biiiiiit of a problem figuring out where the escape hatch was. Finally, more by good luck then judgement, it managed it and trotted off after the family.
I wondered whether fledgie 1 will now have easy food imprinted on its brain whilst no. 2 might always see the cage as something to be wary of :shrug:, first impressions and all that .......

My first Blackbird chick in the garden about half an hour ago. Mum was also there and fed the youngster.

The friendliest of my Blackbirds is still feeding nestlings. I think this must be the third brood. A good year for Blackies :nod: :blackbird:
