Male Blackcap has disappeared, probably away breeding. He will build a few rudimentary nest, one of which the female pick and fashion into a cup shaped nest. Male will help with the incubation and rearing the young. Don't expect to see him for a while.

I haven't seen a Collared Dove in my garden for a few weeks. At one time up to 6 were ever present, now none.
I don't have any rock solid theories as to where they have gone. Number one theory is that they have been victims of the bird flu as I think the ferals have suffered too.

On the subject of feral pigeons my town was up until fairly recently home to big flocks of them. They are still around but with much reduced numbers. It just has to be bird flu. The flock that used to drive me crazy has been reduced to about a third of what it was.

Not a good way to go. But in some places there are just too many of them. Bird flu could be around for years to come.

I am not seeing any Starlings at present and the Sparrows have seriously dwindled. I am getting regular fly throughs by a Sprawk at present and I'm wondering if that is putting them off.

More than likely JS. Have good numbers of starlings and sparrows at the moment.

The garden is very quiet at present. Only the goldfinches are sure to make an appearance. I get the occasional sparrow and woodie but starlings and blackbirds are nowhere to be seen.

Getting lots of sparrows. They seem to hang around for most of the day.
