I'd let the birds do the taste test if I were you.

Our hobby of feeding the birds has now become very expensive. I bought a 20kg bag of SF hearts just before Xmas for about £30 now the one I've just ordered is costing £45 including delivery from the same supplier. A lift of 50%. It may get worse :( I've read that Ukraine and Russia are two of the world's top producers of sunflowers and we all know what's happening there.
Things are getting very tight for everyone now so we'll all be looking for ways to economise.

I think you could be right JS. stopped buying dried mealworms over a year ago. They hit the £50 mark for 5kg and switched to calci worms. But having said that there are a couple of farmers online that grow a lot of their own sunflowers and millet. But could probably go up in price due to market forces.

A little while ago I complained that the cost of SF hearts had rocketed on Amazon. I have just taken delivery of a 20Kg bag and the price was back down to a more manageable £34 including delivery.

Could be that shipments are getting through, or people just won't pay that price. Some sunflower hearts I believe come from Argentina. But yes, I think that people will be watching their wallets, and either go for cheaper food or cut back on the amount they feed to make it go farther.
