I was thinking about the best time to put up our next boxes and saw that from my postings that I did it around this time last year. Is this too early and I should put them up now or wait a little while ? I was quite disappointed last year as we didn't get any occupants. I took down the boxes in October and they are all clean and tidy for this year.

Should be up by now, Mike - honestly, tomorrow may be too late .
One of mine has already been taken by very possessive bluetits who just luuuurve their new apartment and guard it watchfully.

I think this is a very early season - dunnocks, blueys, chaffinches all exhibiting 'springtime' behaviour and the cuckoos are a month early in their journey north.

You could put them back straight after cleaning. Sometimes you get a bird roosting in one all winter and may go on to nest in it :bird2:

Thanks for the replies. I'll get them up tomorrow. Hopefully we'll be more lucky this year.
I watched a chaffinch chasing around a female quite determinedly the other day !

Boxes are now up. Haven't had anything looking yet but it's been raining most of the day and not many small birds about.

Wow, that was quick work .
I hope your industry reaps a swift reward, Mike, but the vagaries of our feathered friends and all that .......
