Red Kites

Post by Kev » Sat May 23, 2015 5:05 pm

These were re-introduced to Oxfordshire a few years back and have been thriving ever since. Big graceful birds that cruise on the updrafts looking for small animals.

If you're anywhere near Aston Rowant and Christmas Common on the M40, it's well worth a trip. I counted 8 in the air at once today.

When my work took me over that way I was constantly on the lookout for them. The most I ever saw at once was 3 at Didcot. :)

Wonderful bird !! Great pix. A real success story.
Ironic really that back in the Miggle Ages red kites were counted as a pest because they were permanent fixtures all over the middens in the towns and villages.
