Nice couple of photos there Mike. Not seen any in my garden yet. Usually get at least one this time of year.

Thanks - to be honest, when I first saw it for some reason I thought it was a female chaffinch but checked to make sure and found it wasn't !

Nice photos Mike. :photo:  Out of interest what fruit is it eating?
The Dunnocks in my garden spend most of the time rootling in the leaf litter and I can't remember seeing one eating fruit.

Hi - that is a very good question and I wondered that myself ! It is the first time I've seen one eating fruit also. It could be a sloe as there are plenty round here (good for making sloe gin) but otherwise I'm not sure. There are some garden shrubs round here that have a purple fruit but I can't remember what they are. Next time I'm walking round I'll try to spot what it may be.

Well no, actually. I think there's some cachet attached to having 3 sparky dunnocks in one's shrubbery so very early in the season.
They repeated the performance again today. One turns away to poker the fire  .......
