Buzzards
Buzzards
Hello everyone, sorry I have been missing for a while! I have been amazingly busy recently, anyway I have found a few minutes to post these pictures from my recent holiday in the South West.
The cottage where I was staying had hens constantly roaming in the grounds:
One late afternoon I heard a lot of squawking coming from outside and 2 or 3 of the hens had become isolated onto a small field at the side of the cottage. When I looked out I saw a big brown bird swoop down and it tried it's luck on one of the poor hens!!! Fortunately the hen struggled and moved close to one of the other hens making it difficult for the Buzzard to pick it up. By the time I appeared the Buzzard was on the gate:
Unfortunately the Buzzard was with it's back to the sun so it was rather in shadow for the picture, but I am glad it didn't get one of the poor hens. I went out and protected the hens and it flew off. I know it needs to eat, but now the lovely garden hens!!!!
I kept looking at the hens afterwards to see which one had been traumatised!! They all looked ok, but one must have been very scared!!

I can't view any of the photos (or the Formby red squirrel ones) but no doubt this will change
Looking forward to seeing them all

Lovely shots of the Buzzard Squirrel. Yes Buzzards have got to eat but there must be something better than old boilers.
Re: Buzzards
Thanks everyone! Great looking bird!! I felt a bit mean shooing it away, but the poor hens were traumatised and I felt responsible for them as they were in my garden so to speak!!! The hens were relying on me looking out for them
Re: Buzzards
First buzzards for the season for me today . I heard them (there were 3) before I saw them. I think we were all just enjoying the sun on our wings

Buzzards are a common sight around where I live. Most often sighted perched on a fencepost close to the road awaiting a lunch opportunity.
