Some of the behaviour of Herring Gulls and lesser Black Backed Gulls is indefensible but it has to be said they do their bit clearing up food rubbish in the areas where they are common. If they don't do eat it it is left to Rats and possibly Foxes. If I had to chose between Rats or Gulls it would be the latter for me. I have been to Looe in Cornwall a couple of times where the Gulls are reportedly aggressive and I found the key to stopping them stealing your food was to share a little with them in the first place. If they think there is more to come they will stand around and wait patiently.

A rellie in Fife tells me that they were informed by a vigilant neighbour they have 'a seagull' nesting in their roof.
Closer inspection revealed two heads poking out from the eaves, one of which seems to be a very watchful parent.
Isn't that nice :) ??

Your rellie may need an umbrella when they go out placi. Seagulls are very protective of their young, and may dive bomb. They can draw blood with a peck on the head. A little Yorkshire terrier was killed down this way by seagulls protecting their area.

Update :) : one baby seagull is in next door's garden and 'tother is wandering around on the roof.
Interestingly, the parents only attack the male local population. A chap who regularly walks his dog past my rellie's house has temporarily altered their route for safety's sake and a near neighbour who fetches her papers won't get out of his car. She has to go out and take the papers from him.
The thing is, the birds don't attack ladies :). My cuz goes around her garden without fear of attack and next door pops in just as ever she did.

How do they know ?!?!?!?
