:waving: Thinking back, I believe peanuts were the first for me too !!

I can remember as a child stringing together a chain of peanuts in shells by means of a needle and cotton and hanging them in the lilac :D. The very first garden bird I saw was a bluey - what else would it be  :).

In just a few days my flock has diminished to practically zero. Where are they ?? Surely it's early for The Autumn Disappearance ??
Haven't seen a single blackie since Saturday and hardly any sparrows or dunnocks or tits or woodies. What does it mean ??

It would seem I am slowly lurching into Autumn routine. Things like sultanas which during the summer are gobbled up in a moment can now hang around all day on the bird table before being eaten and likewise other consumables are lasting longer. While we have yet to reach the mid-point of August summer is beginning to feel like a distant memory. :(

I absolutely concur and agree. The weather even feels like autumn - this morning first thing the temp. was 54F !!!!!! Where's August ?!?!?!?
AND I had a jay gobbling suet pellets to keep out the winter chill.

I quickly learnt that putting the dried mealworms out for the Hogs too early before dusk doomed them for consumption by the Sturks. However I found a cunning hiding place to leave the dish until darkness descended. Well that's what I thought until this evening when the ever vigilant Sturks sussed out my cache and helped themselves. :) Back to the drawing board

My sparrow population has exploded with the added young ones. Have to top up two more times during the day. Not many starlings about either.
