WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
I thought about starlings too, and I have both of the species in my garden, which doesn't help . I just thought that because the shell is smaller it might be dunnock. But it might be starling too. Whichever it is, well done on successful hatch
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Starlings, blackbirds, robin, dunnocks and all the rest are frantically collecting food and flying away with their beaks full . Those babies need feeding . I can't put out food fast enough, every time its gone in minutes
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
The starlings here are doing the same. And a pair of blackbirds. not easy to hide food just for the blackbirds. Starlings manage to find it.
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
So true, starlings are the ultimate masters of finding food . Oh and I can't fill the bird baths fast enough either, they bath all the time , it must be hot and itchy in those nests.
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Finding the same with the bird bath, have to refill several times a day. Surprised me at just how dirty the water gets, must have a dust bath first.
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Its more what I heard really .... was woken up by that all familiar starling fledglings sound , only to find out that it was only one baby! Loud little fella I know more will be on the way . It always amazes me how noisy the parents become at the same time, they've been totally quiet and now they don't stop chattering . Probably communicating with the little ones trying to fledge
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Steady stream of customers at the feeding station today. The most and also more frequent are the goldfinches, they appear not to mind the rain when feeding.

I have walked past a few house that are hosting a Starlings nest today and the youngsters are very vocal. It can only be a matter of days before I get the visit.Butterfly wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 10:54 amIts more what I heard really .... was woken up by that all familiar starling fledglings sound , only to find out that it was only one baby! I am sure there was at least one hiding in my ivy this afternoon. I had the sound effects but not the bird.
