Re: TADPOLES
The biggest of my Tadpoles now have their back legs so a four-legger cannot be far off. They are spending time with their heads at or just near the pond surface which means their gill period is coming to an end. They are also getting a lot more wary which I suppose is a good thing given their vulnerability to predators.

Another successful year by the sounds of it, Jacksparrow . The chateau grounds will be awash again soon.

Re: TADPOLES
My Tadpoles are getting harder to spot and I think they've withdrawn to less obvious hiding places to complete their transformation to Froglet.

Re: TADPOLES
St. Paddy's Day brought my first lot of spawn for 2016. The present number of Frogs visible in the ponds is well short of previous years. It appears to be an ongoing trend and I'm not sure why.
Re: TADPOLES
How very very adjacent, Jacksparrow . Mulberry Paul is going to redo my pond soon. I can only hope to emulate your feat 'cos it's never seen a frog in 8 years :weep:and I live in hope .......

Re: TADPOLES
As I have mentioned previously I have two ponds. Both attract Frogs at spawning time but usually the shallower one I call my "nature pond" gets the bulk of the spawn. This year, so far, despite the presence of Frogs I am still awaiting the first blob in the nature pond while the "other" deeper pond has loads. This in itself is not a bad thing as the N.P. also attracts loads of newts who feast relentlessly on the spawn and then on the new born tadpoles. The problem is that the deep pond cannot support the number of tadpoles likely to appear as they like to eat the green slimy stuff on the pond sides and there is not enough to go round

Re: TADPOLES
I thinks the Frogs have been reading my mind. The nature pond has it's first blob of spawn today and also has further would-be parents queueing up to add to the deposits. I counted 15 today but you never get to see all of them at any one time.
Yes I will post them later, hopefully.
