I still have quite few tadpoles with not much sign of maturing. I think the ones in the nature pond have grown and emerged as froglets while the ones in the former fish pond have only partially matured.

I had a small clearout of the pond that had the tadpoles yesterday. There are still some in there not showing much sign of maturing though the numbers have decreased since my last report.

I think it is fair to say that the early life of a tadpole is fraught with danger most of which is the other water creatures they share their environment with. due to the amount of rain we've had recently water levels in my ponds have risen giving access to areas previously inaccessible for my curios tadders. The other benefit for them is that the water in the shallows is warmer than the main pond. So far, so good, but my ever vigilant Blackbirds have noticed the water trembling due to the presence of the tadders and decided an easy meal is to be had. :(
I have seen Blackbirds eating tadpoles before but they usually wait until they are a bit bigger.

Sounds like ethnic cleansing is on its way :(. The feeding of young is paramount.

It looks like my tadpoles are thriving :) . The warm sun made them very active today a fact which Mr Blackbird also noticed. :(
