I saw my first free swimming tadpoles today and others are wriggling in the spawn jelly.

Most of the tadpoles have disappeared from view. This usually occurs when the water surface cools.

Looks like the cold spell will not last too long. Will come into view again.

They are still growing but I get the feeling that numbers are down on last year.

Today there were the first signs of the tiny tadpoles moving in the spawn jelly. I'm sad to report the earliest spawn was either unfertilized or was effected by one of the frosts we had. The dots in the jelly have not developed and turned white.

Probably the hard frost.
