Aaaahh, that's a novel theory . Sound is magnified underwater, isn't it - might be the reason for the jumping and the scattering. Fish, of course, don't have legs so they're stuck with the din 'cos they can't j and s.
Reckon you've cracked that one, guys

During October and November I have far too much garden waste to clear away than what my council garden waste wheely bin can take away so I bag it up to dispose off during the quieter months of winter. Today I was emptying one such bag into the wheelie when a fully grown frog appeared. :frog: I can only assume it had found it's way into the bag and made it it's winter home. It was awake and not dormant so I released it by the pond where hopefully it can spend the remainder of the winter.
I did check to see if others had got the same idea and found none.

Lucky that you found it. No doubt was cozy in the bag.

I found a dead frog in one of my ponds today. I have no idea what killed it. :(

That`s a shame jacksparrow. Wont be long for spawning now.

Correct. Usually about 6 weeks from now it starts. If we hit some mild weather sooner :)

A few milder days and the first stirring of life are visible in my ponds. Last week there was an inch of ice on them  It will be a few weeks before spawning begins.

More frogs have appeared in the ponds. If the mild weather continues an early spawning looks to be on the cards.

Sounds like good news.

The cooler weather seems to have cooled the ardour of the frogs. I see the occasional swirl of water in the ponds indicating they are still around but nothing compared to last week when coupling was taking place. No sign of any spawn just yet which is probably just as well as there was ice on one of the ponds last Sunday morning.
