My two treerats are fast becoming so fat that they very soon will be unable to get inside the feeder cage - so it's not all bad, izzit ?!?!?!?!

The nightmare scenario is that they squeeze inside of the cage and then gorge themselves on the goodies and get stuck. You might need to buy a good pair of leather gloves and a bottle of Fairy Liquid.

I glanced out of the patio door this morning to see a Squirrel feasting on my Sunflower Hearts. That is the first sighting of one in my garden for several years. I had been suspicious as hazel nut shells were appearing on the lawn but it could have been bird activity.

From where I am I can't quite reach you, Jacksparrow , but I sympathise, I reeeeelly do sympathise.
Scary sticks are presently in our Here Comes Autumn Mega Sale.
I s'pose we should be grateful they're not capibaras !

No sign of my bushy tailed invader today but I think I am not on it's list for a frequent visit
Not time yet for the heavy artillery.

Another visit from the bushy tailed one today There are loads of hazel nuts under my nut tree at present but my sunflower hearts feeder is a much easier meal unfortunately.

A hazel tree ?!?!?! Surprised le chateau isn't absolutement overrun by squirrels.
What do you do with the hazel nuts, Jacksparrow ?

I usually leave them for the beasties. The squirrel is having some but is more interested in the easier meal.
Some years I have had a good crop of empty shells but this years seem to be full. I tried a couple and they were fine.

Very sweet, lovely tasting.
Early mankind used to make them a big part of autumnal diet. Excavated middens show that they used to roast them - preservation and increased protein. Not daft .
