Lovely.
Once in the flying stage they don't outlive the summer. The larvae usually take at least 2 years to go from underwater predators to flying ones!

Don't get too sad. They've being on this life cycle since the age of the Dinosaurs and it works for them.

The only good bit about the current debacle in Bangladesh is spotting the extraordinary amount of dragonflies buzzing around the ground.
They are thick and fast which is more than can be said about the England batsmen - well OK, thick I'll go with .......

The first proper dragonfly of the season turned up today. A female Broad Bodied Chaser.
No photo I'm afraid as it never settled although it gave the ponds a good inspection from the air.
