Hi Placi ! Dog and cat food is a good supplement food for Hedgehogs according to many wildlife charities and hospitals. The food contains much of the natural material they eat. Meat only - not fish (so avoid 'Chappie' dog food as this is derived from a fish base) and any cat based fish foods. Fish is avoided as it can contain small bones that can choke Hogs.
Don't over feed on meat dog/cat food though. Only a quarter of a tin per Hog, unless they eat it all, in which case increase the supplement just a little.

Up until Friday evening I regularly had three hogs visiting by 11 o'clock. A smallish one is always first followed by two adults. On Friday night the tow adults had a bit of a barney. I didn't see any rough stuff but there was plenty of huffing and puffing and suddenly one ran off. The other stayed for a while then wandered off.. I haven't seen either of the adults since :( The small one is still coming and has a big bowl of food to itself.

This wet weather must have made life easier for hedgies - slugs and snails must find it a mixed blessing :goodevil:

The cameras here picked up several hedgehogs last night placi, even though it was tipping down. They were certainly out in force.

Easy food. Back to normal for them :).
The drought must have been hard-going.
Earthworms can go 2 metres deep to find the moist soil they require to prevent drying out.
Someone should invent a Hedgiespade  :hedgehog:

One of my Hogs decided last night to visit my covered patio. It is the first time for a long time one of them has bothered to do this. It left it's calling card just to say thank you for the shelter from the rain.
