Are they live mealworms, Willpar ? Maybe the hedgie is just breathing in the enticing aroma

Yes they are live placi. I started to give it a few as I bought too many for the xmas period. As it has been mild the waggies don't stay long. So I wanted to use up the mealworms before they morphed. still put out hedgehog biscuits I might add.

Did you once say that mealworms contribute to a calcium deficiency in hedgies ?And you had substituted something else (which I forget ).

I was a great fan of live mealies for my hedgies about 6 (?) years ago and discovered eventually that I'm allergic to them !!
Mealies not hedgies.
So that was the end of that.
Last year sometime I bought a pack of dried mealies and thought they would be safe - instantly, really, straight away, I developed a rash so that finished that experiment.
I googled the problem and there it is !! : mealworm allergy - quite common apparently .

Yes placi, dried mealworms on their own are no good for hedgehogs. A few are ok mixed with other food. The live ones when I get them I use bran for bedding and food. But I put vitamin powder with the bran. Give it a good mix, so when the mealworms eat the bran they also eat the vitamins. so that is passed on to the birds or hedgehogs. But as I said I use biscuits as well, so the hedgehogs are getting a well balanced meal. Oh yes, calci worms placi. They are now more expensive than mealworms, so I don't get them anymore. It is now biscuits for the hedgies, or my own mix when I get juveniles.

Two hedgehogs in the garden last night. One is in the feeder still. Looks like it could be an adult, come out of hibernation for a meal.
