I managed to capture this Dunnock in the garden yesterday during the only sunny spell we had. Looks like a female to me but not sure.
Nice to see it eating fruit it's picked off a tree instead of from a feeder.

Hi - sorry I haven't been very active recently but here are some shots of Candlesnuff (or Stagshorn) fungus - Xylaria hypoxylon - I found in the garden the other day.

When I was trying to identify it the description said it was the most common 'hairy' caterpillar.

Yes, it is. When I wrote the header I wasn't sure, so described it as 'brown' - and same for the blue .Jacksparrow wrote:a good set of Mike. I think the brown butterfly is a Gatekeeper

The one in the second photo appears to have a few issues with his plumage and is missing some feathers. I have had a similar thing with my cock Blackbirds over the years to a greater and lesser degree. I have always attributed this to Mites. I must admit I thought it was just because of the water a...
