I have gone the whole summer without a definite ID of one of the larger DFs. Today a Southern Hawker found it way into my garage. It made quiite a racket in it's attempts to get out again until I rescued it using my fishpond net and a leaf gatherer. The ungrateful animal departed without a thankyou...

Ohh, what a shame William. We planted a cotoneaster (can't remember which variety sadly) and that berried up the following year quite nicely, which the birds enjoyed

It is possible to buy small animal traps or maybe borrow one. They do not kill the trapped animal but do allow you to take them far enough away from your home that they won't come back. Alternatively you could try "Bait Boxes" which professional pest companies use, only small mammals would go in an...

For a garden setting, most advice is remove all food sources for several weeks, Charles, but with your balcony setting and upstairs neighbours with their refuse sacks I'm at a bit of a loss what to suggest

:D I have so many photos of little owls, some up close. I'd say may be less than a handful are what I would call decent-ish. I've yet to figure out where I'm going wrong. Not a lot wrong with that. I like the way the pupils are different sizes because one is in sunlight, and the other in shadow.

I think both species like an open flight path to their nests, so they can check for predators before entering and leaving. May be different for roosting purposes rather than nesting purposes.
