It's October and I'm still getting most of the same species visiting the pond as I did in the summer.

Despite the cooler weather now, I'm still getting lots of birds at the pond.

My Heron has made an appearance again.

My resident shrew is getting bolder and drinking at the pond during the day.

I think worms make up a relatively large proportion of their diet when conditions are right.

A couple of years ago I tossed out some over-ripe bananas thinking the birds might peck at them but was surprised to see a large fox scoff them.

With the wetter weather, earthworms are back on the menu for the foxes. They're quite proficient at finding them.

I have them here too in Northern Germany and they like to play in my birdbath with fountain even more than the other birds do. 😄 Yes, I'm almost certain they are Chiffchaffs. It's interesting that both of you see Blackcaps in winter. Thanks to my Youtube analytics I have three other videos featuring Blackcaps since 2021 which were all mid April to early May.
