The original study ( the Krebs report ) in the 90's studied the effects of culling and concluded that culling was not effective. I think the latest culls are just a fudge by the government to keep the farming community happy.
Vaccination seems to be the best option, but it's not the cheapest option.

One of the shoots on my Roses is about an inch long. All that energy going into a part of the plant that I'll only prune off in Spring. The dilemma is, do I do my Spring pruning now, or leave it? Goldcrest

The Goldcrest turned up today. We usually see it when we have a cold snap so it was a bit of a surprise. It always appears in the silver/blue conifer by the kitchen. I think it hunts for spiders and their eggs.
